Tesla has launched its newest software update, 2024.8, initially in Europe. The update features a one-time charge limit and adaptive high beams, which adjust automatically to reduce glare, promising enhanced nighttime visibility and safety. The update also includes a one-time charge limit option for road trips, reverting to the standard limit post-journey. Tesla's Head of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, hinted at more features and expanded availability in the future.
Tesla's Latest Software Update Enhances Safety and Convenience for European Drivers
As previously reported by Teslarati (via Not a Tesla App), Tesla vehicles are now receiving software update 2024.8, which includes the new one-time charge feature and European support for adaptive high beams on redesigned Model S and Model X vehicles, as well as Model Y and legacy Model 3 units.
While the updated high beams are currently only available in Europe, Tesla is working to expand the feature to the United States in the future. Tesla's Head of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, also mentioned the feature's release on Monday, stating that "more regions and features" would follow
With adaptive high beams, headlights detect other road users, such as drivers and cyclists, and automatically adjust the high beams to reduce glare. The release notes also state that by selectively dimming individual pixels in the headlights, the high beams will stay on more frequently for better nighttime visibility while adjusting for those outside the vehicle.
Under the Adaptive High Beams option, drivers can also enable the new headlight feature from the vehicle's Lights menu.
Drivers can now select the one-time charge limit option when preparing for a road trip. When the standard charge limit is increased above the daily driving recommendation, Tesla vehicles will now offer the option of a one-time charge limit. After the trip, the car will automatically revert to its previous daily charge limit.
The adaptive headlights feature was also included in the upgraded Model 3, which Tesla released in Europe and other markets last year before launching the refreshed vehicle in North America in January.
