The Evil Within 2 is the recently launched horror-survival shooter sequel to the critically-acclaimed The Evil Within. Launched for all major platforms, it seems the PC version has another advantage over its console counterparts. With a secret console command, it would seem that players can play the game in first-person instead of the default third-person perspective.
As PC Gamer notes, there are some sections in the game where a first-person view is involved. As such, it’s not a surprise that the game is actually capable of offering the mode. With a simple console command, players who have already completed or are still in the process of playing the game can go through the whole thing in first-person view.
The quality of the first-person mode is actually quite good. There’s the head bob to satisfy gamers with immersion obsessions and it’s relatively stable apart from certain sections where the character is reverted to third-person temporarily.
As to how players can even activate the console command, the console option needs to be turned on first. This can be done by going to the Steam Library section, right-clicking on the game, and then selecting “properties”. From there, players need to click on the “set launch option” command before typing in “+com_allowconsole 1” without the quotation marks.
As Dark Side Of Gaming notes, the developers have made no mention of the existence of this console command or why they left it accessible. However, it really doesn’t matter as long as it can augment the experience of the players with the game.
While third-person view grants players with a significantly wider field of vision, the first-person mode significantly restricts how much gamers can see. In a game that is intended to scare players like The Evil Within 2, this is simply perfect and increases immersion significantly.
