There has been more than one elephant addressed in Episode 14 of “The Walking Dead” Monday night, and boy they were huge.
First up: the show has finally acknowledged that Hilltop Colony member Jesus, played by Tom Payne, is gay. NME said Jesus in the Robert Kirkman comics world has always been a gay character, and it was monumental for the show to have that moment. In the TV series, we saw Jesus addressed his sexuality during a tender conversation with Maggie (Lauren Cohan).
While discussing the forming of factions among different survivor groups, he confided to Maggie, “For the first time, I feel like I belong. When I was first here, I was never here. I always found it hard getting close to anyone – neighbours, friends… boyfriends.”
The Independent said Jesus is the sixth LGBT character introduced in the series. Tara (Alanna Masterson), Alisha (Juliana Harkavy), Aaron (Ross Marquand), Eric (Jordan Woods-Robinson) and Denise (Meritt Wever) were also featured in the show. The show also introduced its first ever Muslim-American character during last week’s episode.
On the other hand, Maggie confronted Daryl (Norman Reedus) about Glenn’s (Steven Yeun) death, whom the latter has always blamed himself for it. While hiding out in a basement, Maggie asked Daryl to not get worked up over Glenn’s death,
"Ever since you got here, you haven't said a word to me. Would you look at me, please. It wasn't your fault...You're one of the good things in this world. That's what Glenn thought, and he would know, because he was one of the good things too," Maggie said as Daryl tearfully apologized.
Meanwhile, does Sasha (Sonequa Martin) have a death wish? TIME said Episode 14 saw Sasha deciding to carry on the Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) assassination by herself. As she and Rosita journey towards the Sanctuary, Sasha prevented Rosita from following her inside the compound fence and said, “Go. It's not your time."
