Season 7 finale is less than a week away, and it’s only natural to wonder who’s going to take the first shot in the all-out war between Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his group and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his Saviors.
In Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's “Walking Dead” comics story, which is aptly called “All-Out War,” Rick ultimately leads his group, Jesus (Tom Payne), Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Michonne (Danai Gurira), and Aaron (Ross Marquand), who are all armed to the teeth, towards Negan’s Sanctuary, The Hollywood Reporter said. Rick literally fired the first shot as a means to summon Negan. However, when Negan appeared, Rick offered the bat-wielding maniac to live in peace or die in their hands.
And guess who was the mole? In “Something They Need,” Negan’s words to Sasha foretold that someone from Rick’s camp might derail their chances in the upcoming war, the New York Times said. The comics version showed that it was Gregory (Xander Berkeley), the current leader of the Hilltop, who proceeded to sell out his own people in order to curry favor from Negan.
On the other hand, Gregory would be the obvious choice, and may be predictable for TV standards. Troy L Smith for Cleveland.com deduces that Gregory may be doing this as a by-product of his survivalistic attitude, but there is an obvious person who’d probably be a big blow to Rick’s plans. He wrote,
“Were we really 100 percent convinced Rick could trust the group at the junkyard? They did throw Rick in a pit to fight a spiked walker. There's a good chance Rick made a mistake trusting Jadis and her people by giving them all those weapons. It's probably a wise move for Jadis, considering Rick laid out how just how powerful the Saviors are.”
