“The Walking Dead” Season 9 is going to herald major changes for the post-apocalyptic drama as two of the show’s leading stars are set to exist in the next installment. The announcement left fans of the horror series devastated and they are already proclaiming that the show will take a nosedive if this is to occur.
The two characters who will be walking out in “The Walking Dead” Season 9 are Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Express reported. Cohan’s reason for leaving is that she’s headlining ABC’s spy drama/comedy, while Lincoln cited family concerns.
Showrunners have yet to reveal how these characters are going to exit and fans will have to wait for “The Walking Dead” Season 9 to air, which is slated for Oct.7. What’s more, the show will not pick up where it left off in the previous season. Instead, showrunners opted to time jump for two years after the eighth installment.
As can be seen in the trailer, the group has grown from their measly number into a large thriving community. And seeing that there are a lot of new characters, the possibility of conflict and clashing of perspectives between members of this coalition is going to be inevitable. Indeed, showrunners already showed this in the trailer of “The Walking Dead” Season 9 and even gave a sneak peek that Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is still alive.
Right now, it’s uncertain how the writers are going to handle the exit of Rick and Maggie. While Lincoln is deadest in walking away from the show, Cohan is hinting that the possibility of Maggie returning is still on the table. This implies that “The Walking Dead” Season 9 might not kill Maggie onscreen but it’s possible she’s simply going to leave or vanish altogether.
Cohan said that there’s still a chance of her exploring Maggie as a character and it remains to be seen if whatever she has in mind will be realized. After Rick and Maggie’s departure, Daryl (Norman Reedus) is set to headline the show, with Carol (Melissa McBride) likely going to play second fiddle. “The Walking Dead” Season 9 will air on Oct. 7 and will answer a lot of questions that fans have been asking following this major development.
