“The Walking Dead” Season 9 will be returning on February and the protagonists have been pitted against a new twisted group of scums. Called the Whisperers, these group of individuals wear the skin of Walkers in order to blend in with a horde of flesh-eating undead.
The cult-like faction is led by two people called Alpha and Beta. So far, the protagonists know little about this group save from the fact that they’re able to mingle with the undead horde by slipping into the skin of Walkers. What’s really interesting to see in the remaining episodes of “The Walking Dead” Season 9 is how the show will handle the conflict between The Whisperers and the people of Alexandria.
In the comics, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Carl (Chandler Riggs) played a significant role in defeating this twisted cult, with the latter forming a relationship with one of The Whisperer’s members. But given that both characters are no longer in the TV adaptation, it’s unclear who will step into their shoes. Right now, the most obvious choice is Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Henry (Macsen Lintz). As Henry’s age is somewhat close to Carl’s, it’s expected that he’ll be the one forming the abovementioned connection in “The Walking Dead” Season 9.
But another character that might fit this role is Judith (Cailey Fleming). It’s a safe bet that the young girl might form a friendship with Lydia – possibly the girl astride a horse in the photo above – and will have a hand at influencing the perspective of this new character. What makes this possibility strong is the fact that the show already formed a bond between Judith and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). And since Negan was the one who literally took Alpha’s head, this prediction isn’t too far off. Of course, it could also prove off the mark. After all, the series has long broken away from how the comics tell the story and “The Walking Dead” Season 9 might deal with The Whisperers on a whole different scheme.
Still, going in this direction also makes sense, especially now that Negan has escaped his cell similar to what happened in the comics. With these new antagonists, Negan’s disappearance, and Daryl and the rest of his group cornered at the moment, “The Walking Dead” Season 9 certainly has a lot going on for it. Hopefully, showrunners can keep everything interesting since the exit of Rick and Maggie left a gaping hole that can never be replaced.
