Donald Trump, President-elect, is set to hold a "Make America Great Again Victory Rally" in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, one day before his second-term inauguration. The rally, starting at 3 p.m. ET at Capital One Arena, marks Trump’s first major Washington address since his controversial call for supporters to march on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Trump has pledged to pardon many of the over 1,500 individuals charged in connection with that attack.
This event previews Trump’s tone for his second term. Recent statements about acquiring Greenland, the Panama Canal, and integrating Canada into the U.S. have raised concerns among allies. Speakers include Elon Musk, who spent $250 million supporting Trump’s campaign, Vice President-elect JD Vance, UFC CEO Dana White, and conservative figures Charlie Kirk and Megyn Kelly.
TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew will attend amid uncertainty over a U.S. ban on the app. Performers include Kid Rock, The Village People, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Lee Greenwood.
Earlier Sunday, Trump will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington. In the evening, he will address supporters at a private dinner. The Monday inauguration, relocated indoors due to cold weather, will take place inside the Capitol rotunda at noon ET, with 25,000 security personnel ensuring safety.
President Joe Biden will spend his last official day in Charleston, South Carolina, commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day and reflecting on King’s legacy.
Trump’s rally and inaugural address are expected to highlight his vision for the next four years as he officially begins his return to the White House.
