President Donald Trump made a memorable stop at Graceland, Elvis Presley's iconic Memphis estate, expressing his lifelong admiration for the King of Rock and Roll during a visit focused on federal efforts to reduce crime in the city.
While touring the historic property, Trump openly reflected on never having met Presley personally, calling it one of his biggest regrets. "I knew Frank Sinatra, I knew most of them," Trump remarked. "Unfortunately, I never met Elvis. That would be one that I would have liked a lot." The president also made clear his deep appreciation for Presley's music, repeatedly declaring, "I love Elvis!" as the singer's recording of "How Great Thou Art" played in the background.
Trump connected his passion for Elvis to their generational closeness, noting that Presley was born just 11 years before him in 1935. "I was around with Elvis in his semi-prime, at least, right?" he told his tour guides. Attorney General Pam Bondi accompanied Trump during the visit, with both sharing a moment over their appreciation for the legendary performer.
Throughout the tour, Trump expressed genuine curiosity and enthusiasm, leaning in to examine Presley's green military helmet and expressing surprise upon learning the singer was naturally blonde. He also praised Presley's bold interior design choices inside the famous Jungle Room, which features animal print décor and carved pine furniture. "He was way before his time," Trump said.
The president was asked to sign a replica guitar from Presley's Hawaii concert, which he called a great honor. When asked to name his favorite Elvis song, Trump cited "Hurt," a powerful 1976 ballad.
During his first term, Trump posthumously awarded Presley the Presidential Medal of Freedom, further cementing his long-standing respect for the rock and roll legend.
