‘Westworld’ season 2 is expected to return to HBO sometime in 2018 and may feature the possible return of Anthony Hopkins’ Dr. Robert Ford, who was last seen shot in the head by Dolores in season 1’s finale. Meanwhile, it was also speculated that Elsie also survived Bernard’s attack and is alive somewhere in the park.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunners Jonathan Nolan hinted that Hopkins’ mysterious Dr. Robert Ford may possibly return in the incoming season. Season 1’s finale episode saw the demise of Ford after he manipulated Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) to shoot him and other guests at Park One. It was revealed that Ford’s new narrative was to spark the Hosts’ consciousness and ultimately a rebellion against the humans.
When asked about Ford’s reappearance in season 2, Nolan teased, “I think with this show, you want to assume nothing. We had a wonderful experience. It was one of the greatest privileges of my career so far, getting to work with Anthony for the first season. It was an incredible experience.”
Nolan was also asked about the return of Jimmi Simpson’s William and Ben Barnes’ Logan and he replied, “I would say assume nothing with this show.”
Meanwhile, it was also speculated that Shannon Woodward’s Elsie Hughes may still be alive after all after being supposedly choked to death by Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) under the orders of Dr. Ford. Elsie worked in the Programming Division and was in charge of diagnosing behavior problems in Westworld’s Hosts as well as programming them prior to their entry in the park.
According to Digital Spy, a reddit user renwood claimed to have spotted an Easter Egg on the show’s official website Delosincorporated.com hinting at the impermanence of death as well as Elsie’s survival on the series. It was hinted that Elsie may still be alive but lost in the park somewhere.
Meanwhile, ‘Game of Thrones’ author George R.R. Martin admitted that Nolan and Lisa Joy’s ‘Westworld’ may beat out his own television series. According to Maxim.com, Martin wrote on a blog post that the new series may claim the Best Television Series category at the Golden Globes.
He wrote, "Being an HBO guy, I'm thrilled that to see that both Game of Thrones and Westworld have been nominated for the big prize… Though Westworld is going to be some tough competition. (In fact, I would figure WW for the favorite)."
He added, "As an science fiction and fantasy geek, I am also delighted to see that Stranger Things made the list… Three out of five finalists being genre shows... and during this golden age of television... is another sign of just how far we've come."
‘Westworld’ season 2 was renewed on HBO last November 2016 and is expected to return sometime in 2018.
