One of the biggest questions about “Westworld” season 3 is who will be the next main villain. It was answered recently along with the confirmation that “Black Swan” film star Vincent Cassel is the newest addition to the cast of the HBO sci-fi series.
Considering that “Westworld” season 3 will not be released until next year, HBO wanted to keep the character details under wraps. On the bright side, showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy did confirm that “Jason Bourne” star’s inclusion to the show. "We’re incredibly excited to work with Vincent Cassel. We’ve been longtime fans of his and are thrilled for him to join the ‘Westworld’ team," Nolan and Joy said in a statement through The Hollywood Reporter.
“Westworld” season 3 is going to be Cassel’s first major TV project. But the actor is well-known for his roles in critically-acclaimed roles films. Aside from the ones mentioned above, Cassel was nominated for major categories in France’s César Award for his role in the 1995 film “La Haine.” Fans might also recognize him from “Ocean’s Twelve” and “Ocean’s Thirteen.”
Cassel is not the only powerhouse addition to “Westworld” season 3. It has been confirmed for a while now that “Breaking Bad” alum Aaron Paul is joining the show for a series regular role. Last month, it was also reported that “Master of None” writer and cast member Lena Waithe joins the cast as well, likely for a recurring role. But just like in Cassel’s case, details of their characters are still well-hidden secrets.
Even before the second season started, there have been speculations that “Westworld” season 3 will not be released until 2020. “We want you excited to come back after 18 months but that you haven’t been left hanging on the edge of a cliffhanger — that doesn’t really feel fair to the audience,” Nolan told Entertainment Weekly in April 2018, a few days before season 2 premiered. The rumors were just confirmed recently. However, a specific release date remains unknown.
