During the 2017 Gamescom event on Sunday, Microsoft finally launched pre-orders for the special edition of its upcoming super-powered console the Xbox One X called the Xbox One X Project Scorpio. The name is obviously an ode to the unit’s code name, which got so many fans excited that there are no more units available anywhere.
When pre-orders for the game were finally available, gamers apparently raced to get their reservations finalized. As a result, it didn’t take long for some of the biggest retailers in the market, including Best Buy, Amazon, and GameSpot to announce that their supplies of the console were sold out, GeekWire reports.
Up until a few hours ago, there was still some hope that some smaller retailers still had units of the special Xbox One X edition for pre-order, including the Microsoft Store. Unfortunately, even they have run out of Project Scorpio consoles to sell.
Now, it’s worth noting that only the special edition unit was released for pre-order and the other versions have yet to hit the market. So, there’s not likely to be a shortage once the regular Xbox One X units finally hit the markets. Then again, considering the recent string of supply problems that companies are facing, one can never really say.
In related news, the souped-up Xbox One console won’t launch without games to complement its power. As TechSpot reports, there are now over 100 games that have been optimized to offer 4K gaming. Since this is one of the biggest selling points that Microsoft has been touting with regards to the console, it’s only natural that gamers would expect such a feature.
These games include Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Injustice 2, The Witcher 3, and Fallout 4. Fans of those games and many others on the list can start enjoying them in full 4K glory, assuming they have the screen to actually experience it.
