Since revealing the latest trailer of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2” last June during the E3 festivities, Nintendo has been quiet about the sequel. But a new report suggests that does not mean the sequel is bound to be delayed.
Video game fans have seen plenty of release date delays, even for AAA titles, throughout 2021. So many may have already learned to pick up early clues that could be hinting at a postponed launch of much-anticipated games. So when The Game Awards went by without any presence of Link or Zelda on the screen, it is understandable if some fans became concerned about the state of the “Breath of the Wild 2” development.
However, IGN chief content officer Peer Schneider said in the last Nintendo Voice Chat podcast of 2021 the absence of “Breath of the Wild 2” at TGA should not be taken as an early warning of yet another game delay. “It does sound like Nintendo is going to have a pretty good year next year,” Schneider said. He added that Nintendo employees appear excited about what they have in store for fans in 2022, which officially includes the much-awaited sequel of the Nintendo Switch game.
When Nintendo released the latest “Breath of the Wild 2” trailer earlier this year, the company also confirmed that it is scheduled to launch sometime in 2022. The specific release date is still unknown. But Schneider appears to suggest that “Breath of the Wild 2” could be released in November 2022.
Details about the “Breath of the Wild 2” gameplay are still scant. But the latest trailer shows Link free-falling from the sky and going through a solid rock surface, hinting at the new abilities of the main protagonist in the upcoming game. And these movements were seemingly discussed with more technical details in recently published patents filed by Nintendo. One of the patents also describes a concept where a character can practically rewind its actions, but it is unclear if it would be implemented in the sequel as well.
