Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has called for a strong international response following a wave of Russian drone attacks across Ukraine. In his nightly address on Saturday, Zelenskiy emphasized that Russia's near-daily drone assaults not only endanger Ukrainian lives but also undermine global diplomatic efforts to end the war.

Soon after his remarks, a mass drone strike hit Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, killing one person and injuring 14. Earlier, four people were killed in Dnipro, and nine others were injured in Kryvyi Rih, as drones targeted civilian areas overnight.

Zelenskiy revealed that 172 drones—many believed to be Iranian-made Shaheds—were launched, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting 94. He urged a "serious response" from allies, particularly the U.S. and Europe, to counter escalating Russian aggression.

"Russia is attacking everyone working toward peace," he said. "Ignoring these strikes is no longer an option."

Recent U.S.-brokered ceasefires aimed at safeguarding Black Sea shipping lanes and energy infrastructure have been repeatedly violated, with both sides trading blame. Zelenskiy also confirmed discussions with Ukraine's top commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, on the 1,000-km front line and operations inside Russian territory intended to relieve pressure on Ukrainian forces.

Ukraine maintains a presence in Russia’s Kursk region seven months after a cross-border operation. Zelenskiy noted new actions beyond Kursk aimed at weakening Russian advances, particularly near the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

The latest escalation highlights the urgent need for continued military aid and international solidarity, as Ukraine braces for further attacks and pushes to hold ground amid a grinding conflict that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
