“Since day one at Zola, our top priority has been to source the best superfruits and plant-powered ingredients to produce great tasting functional beverages that quench consumers’ thirst for healthy hydration,” said Chris Cuvelier, Founder and CEO of Zola. “This quest is what inspired us to launch America’s first bottled Açaí Juice more than 15 years ago, and it was the driving force behind the development of our new Organic Hydrating Energy Drinks today. We’ve been laser-focused on utilizing consumer research to determine gaps in the market that our Plant-Powered Hydration philosophy can serve. We learned that consumers are concerned about not having enough energy to get through the day, and nearly 2/3 said they were apprehensive about the ingredients found in traditional energy drinks on shelves today.”
Zola’s latest consumer research1 revealed several insights that led to the development of the new line of Organic Hydrating Energy Drinks including:
- 8 of 10 energy drink consumers showed high intent to purchase Zola’s new Organic Hydrating Energy Drinks.
- 50% of non-energy drink consumers said they would be interested in trying Zola’s new Organic Hydrating Energy Drinks based on the organic certification and usage of plant-based ingredients, demonstrating the line’s potential to grow the category.
- The top 5 reasons consumers said they liked the packaging was because it communicated delicious, refreshing, organic, healthier energy.
New Zola Organic Hydrating Energy Drinks, featuring sparkling coconut water, deliver Plant-Powered Hydration with potassium to hydrate and energy to replenish. The energy is sourced from plant-based ingredients including green coffee and green tea extracts. The new drinks are USDA Certified Organic and are available in four flavors – Açaí Berry, Matcha Green Tea, Pineapple Coconut, and Dragon Fruit. Each 12 oz. can contains 120 milligrams of plant-powered caffeine, which is the equivalent of two shots of espresso and 230-240 milligrams of potassium. Suggested retail price is $2.49 per can. The product reflects a clean and sleek look that quickly communicates the product benefits and flavor. It also showcases the new Zola logo and overall updated branding launched earlier this summer across the entire Zola portfolio.
“Through our research we quickly saw an opportunity to bring new and natural benefits to the popular energy drink category,” said Pete Brennan, Chief Growth Officer at Zola. “Sales of energy drinks in the U.S. continue to grow, and are expected to top $15 billion by 2019. Our new Organic Hydrating Energy Drinks combine on-trend flavors with plant-powered energy and hydration sources to refuel and replenish. This product line and our Plant-Powered Hydration philosophy are being supported by our new ‘Live Zola /Be____’ campaign, which focuses on fueling those who live what we call the ‘slash life’— that daily hustle to pursue passion/profession/play. The blank line in our campaign symbolizes the fact that this community knows their next move best, and whatever that is, Zola Organic Hydrating Energy Drinks, Coconut Water and Organic Açaí Juices will fuel it.”
As part of the new ‘Live Zola/ Be ______’ campaign, Zola is partnering with groups such as Startup Grind, TECHmunch, and IVY: The Social University, and connecting with leaders, creators, and innovators in the entrepreneurial and athletic community who are living examples of the “slash life.” Zola will fuel members of these communities at various events and touchpoints through social and digital marketing, engagement with online influencers, and at the store level.
Zola’s new Organic Hydrating Energy drinks will be available at more than 1,800 grocery and specialty stores nationwide.
