Research Fellow in Circular Economy Systems, University of Leeds
Ed is a Research Fellow in Circular Economy Systems for Plastics in the Faculty of Engineering at Leeds University. His work focuses on obtaining a better understanding of plastic waste generation and fate in low and lower middle income countries, and developing models to mitigate this pollution.
Ed has has over 15 years' experience in the waste management sector, initially working as the Managing Director of Network Recycling, a waste management and cleaning contractor in the events industry, where he managed the clearance of over 50 music festivals across the UK. More recently, Ed has worked as a Senior Waste Management Consultant for Resource Futures where he was the specialist practice group lead for waste plastics, waste processing technology, niche materials and recyclate markets. The international hiatus around plastics has led to his involvement in more policy focussed work including production of publications for the OECD, The Resourcing the Future Partnership (WRAP, CIWM, ESA, Resource Association) and several NGOs.
Ed has provided practical advice to private businesses and local authorities including several projects for WRAP and Zero Waste Scotland. Ed is a Chartered Waste Manager and has a Master’s Degree in Waste and Resource Management from Cranfield University where he is also a guest lecturer on mechanical-biological treatment.
