Researcher in Communications Policy, London School of Economics and Political Science
Dr Jelena Dzakula is a Researcher in communications policy at the London School of Economics and a Lecturer at the University of Leicester. Her current work focuses on the so-called disruptive technologies, such as blockchain and crypto currencies, their impact on the users and their empowerment, and she is working on the use of big data by the regulators in the UK.
Jelena has obtained a PhD from the University of Westminster, Media and Communications Research Institute. Her doctoral research focused on new modes of governance in the media sector and their democratic quality. Jelena holds a Masters degree in Communications Policy from the University of Westminster, and a Bachelors degree in Linguistics and Literature from the University of Belgrade, Serbia. She has worked for Ofcom, Voice of the Listener and Viewer, MasterCard, and she has been a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster and a Researcher at the University of Salford. She has also conducted research for Food Standards Agency, RISJ, University of Oxford, and European Commission. She is also currently the UK lead for the European Commission's Media Plurality Monitor, which aims at assessing the risks to media plurality stemming from legal, political and economic factors.
