When the Nintendo “Split” console was revealed, the world had cause to celebrate several things. One is the existence of a gaming unit that was portable on so many levels. Another is the possibility of playing “Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Re-Mastered” on the go when the game was shown in the reveal trailer. Unfortunately, it’s not yet official.
In the reveal trailer of the portable home console, people were shown to be playing “Skyrim” on the “Split” at home, on the train, even on an airplane. This has caused no small amount of excitement among fans of both Nintendo and the award-winning RPG by Bethesda. As Games Industry reports, however, the studio hasn’t even confirmed the game’s compatibility with the “Split.”
"We're happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on the video,” a spokesperson from Bethesda said. “While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details in the future."
The statement is noncommittal, but at least it doesn’t outright deny the possibility that players can slay some dragons while on the way to work. It’s also clear that Bethesda and Nintendo are working on something together, which doesn’t rule out portable versions of the studio’s other titles in the future, Gamespot notes.
Then again, a lot of publications are highlighting “Skyrim’s” extended presence on the roughly 3 minutes and 30-second trailer. It was shown much more prominently than even games that Nintendo made, including “Splatoon,” “Mario Kart,” and the console’s expected heavy hitter, “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wilds.”
If Bethesda’s RPG wasn’t going to be playable on the “Split,” why would it have occupied so much of the console’s reveal trailer? Gamerant suggests that Bethesda might just be trying to clarify technicalities.
