The recently released iOS 9 software update has deeply unnerved the online advertising industry. It will allow users to download Web browser extensions that can block advertisements from being shown while web surfing.
According to IBTimes, with the release of Apple’s new operating system, many content blockers have risen to the top of the paid list of the App Store and many more are likely to follow pursuit. If users start installing them, it could pose a serious problem for companies such as Google, which rely heavily on advertising revenue.
Here is a list of some of the ad blocking apps that users can choose from:
Crystal
Crystal is a content blocker for iPhone & iPad that blocks Adverts, User Tracking & General Website Annoyances and improves speed, data use and battery life of the device as a result. It installs directly into Safari, so that users don't have to change any their browsing habits.
Purify
Using this app a user can not only block ads and tracking scripts, but also block images, scripts and fonts to save bandwidth and speed up page-load times even further. Moreover, users can also “whitelist” individual sites that they want to support or websites that may not function properly after enabling Purify.
Peace
Developed by, Marco Arment, it can block content in Safari and in apps that embed Safari in iOS 9. It can also block social widgets and outside fonts and hide comment forms at the bottom of websites.
1Blocker
It blocks ads, tracking scripts, various social widgets, share buttons, custom web fonts, adult sites, and more. Preinstalled blockers update automatically from its servers. Moreover, 1Blocker enables users to create their own blockers: either configure blockers on-the-go using simple built-in editor or create completely custom blocker packages using our advanced web editor.
