iPhone 16 Pro with 2TB Storage: High Capacity, Surprisingly Affordable

The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro: a leap in storage capacity, without the premium price tag.

A new leak says that an iPhone 16 Pro with 2TB of storage is not out of the question.

iPhone 16 Pro 2TB May Be Cheaper Than Expected

According to DigiTimes, Apple is considering including Quad-Level Cell (QLC) NAND flash memory in high-capacity 1TB iPhone models. The company would use Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND flash for smaller storage capacities, such as 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, while this other technology would be used for greater capacities, such as 1TB or 2TB.

QCL reduces production costs by providing more storage in less area. However, if Apple adopts this technology, it will offer slower data write speeds than others with smaller capacity. As a result, an iPhone 15 Pro Max with 1TB of storage would write/read faster than an iPhone 16 Pro with 1TB of storage, for example.

Furthermore, because it can store more information in less area, QLC NAND Flash is less reliable than TLC in terms of writing endurance. Even while this may appear to be a degradation, you need not be too concerned.

iPhone 16 Pro: Balancing Cost and Performance with Enhanced Features and AI Integration

The performance difference is minimal. For example, the QLC flash storage delivers write speeds of 550MB/s, while the TLC option can hit between 450MB/s and 500MB/s.

This distinction would be more noticeable on a workstation computer, which is used for video editing, programming, and so on, but not on a smartphone. With this move, Apple might provide a lower-cost 1TB and even higher-storage version without burdening users with a $2,000 iPhone, as per BGR.

Despite this, reports about the iPhone 16 Pro point to a larger display, 48MP ultra-wide lens, a better battery, and an enhanced A18 Pro CPU, which is expected to heat less and perform better overall.

The iPhone 16 Pro is still a few months ahead of us. We anticipate to hear more about its future possibilities when Apple releases iOS 18 at WWDC. According to reports, this year's Worldwide Developers Conference will focus on AI features.
