Apple is known for extravagant events and a lineup of products that constantly put the financial security of its customers under extreme stress tests. However, if reports are to be believed, its upcoming iPhone 8 could be the biggest test of faith and loyalty of them all. With a rumored price tag that could put the unit at $1,200 or more, Apple would be asking a lot from its consumer base.
Now, it’s worth noting that this information is by no means concrete and the reports are just coming from speculations and deductions. As Apple Insider notes, Apple has been charging more and more for its products over the years, with the last iPhone unit having a price tag that came dangerously close to $900.
As such, it’s little wonder that commentators have made the pronouncement that the iPhone 8 could cost $1,000 or more. Daring Fireball’s John Gruber actually put his own thoughts to the public concerning the probable price of the next iPhone iteration, saying it could have a starting price of either $1,199 or $1,249.
Basically, the premise of the speculation revolves around the limited supply of the iPhone 8 at the outset. As a result, Apple would be trying to offset the losses by making the devices more expensive. For those who still need more affordable options, there will still be the iPhone 7 line-up.
As to why Apple might have trouble manufacturing the iPhone 8 at a significant enough number to turn a profit, the problem lies in the parts that the company needs, BGR reports. The fact that the electronics giant is fighting over raw materials with Nintendo in order to make the new iPhone is already well known, at this point. Even though Apple still has the lion’s share of the ingredients, it is still going to feel the burn of having to compete with another company for the coveted parts.
