“Shadow Warrior 2” is out and the first-impression comments are flooding in. With the first game being a surprise hit that slammed reviewers from behind with its fun gameplay and genuine humor, expectations for the sequel were high. Based on what publications have been saying so far, playing as Lo Wang to kill demons again is still as fun as ever.
As Kotaku notes, anyone playing “Shadow Warrior 2” won’t likely pay attention to the graphics first since it’s not what it’s known for, but the game really is quite gorgeous. With beautiful rays of sunlight and an impressive showing of grassy settings, Flying Wild Hog seems to have paid attention to the tiniest details.
On to the meat of the matter, the gameplay now involves an even faster pace than the first game. Thanks to the unlimited dash and the double jump, getting around the procedurally generated world is going to be a cinch. For anyone who doesn’t have cat-like reflexes, however, fights might be a challenge.
Combat has certainly been streamlined, with the character’s movements now smoother than ever, but it’s also a lot more hectic. Then again, this is exactly what players are expecting from “Shadow Warrior 2,” so fans won’t likely be disappointed.
Speaking of fans of the first game, there are now side quests. Players will be taking Wang to randomly created locations to kill off some demons and collect some loot, completing objectives along the way.
To make this aspect of the game look more inviting, the game now has multi-resolution shading by Nvidia, PC World reports. The technology works by reducing the resolution of the sides of the screen while maintaining integrity on the middle where players’ eyes will be.
Not only does this feature improve the frame rate, it actually enhances the gameplay’s visual elements. Players can choose from three varying levels of shading as well, namely Disabled, Conservative, and Aggressive.
