To say that “Alita: Battle Angel” has earned its place in the hearts of fans would be a major understatement. This live-action adaptation of a manga story that then became an anime has surprised many fans of both the Japanese niche and broader movie industries. This is why many are desperately calling for more support in order to get “Alita: Battle Angel 2” made.
While critics may not have truly grasped the nuances of the movie, fans had no trouble seeing this film for the gem that it is. It would appear that both James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez share the same vision since they are already looking to the future. Not only “Alita: Battle Angel 2,” the pair might actually be thinking about the third film in the franchise, Monsters and Critics reports.
In terms of financial success, the sheer strangeness of “Alita: Battle Angel” is taking a while for filmgoers to get used to. Coupled with the lukewarm reviews it has received from professional critics who don’t really understand this kind of movie, this has resulted in an average performance at the box office. However, there is still hope that overwhelming support can lead to an “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”
When it does, the legendary filmmakers behind it already have a plan for how it is going to go. The outline for a trilogy seems to already exist. In fact, it would seem that James Cameron actually sent up to 600 pages of script regarding “Alita: Battle Angel 2” to Robert Rodriguez. This shows just how committed the filmmaker is to this particular property.
As it stands, “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is an example of how viewers and critics have become so different from one another in terms of judging the worth of a movie. To most who saw the first film, those who gave it bad reviews were absolutely wrong. Fans can only hope that the sequel will be covered by more suitable critics when it potentially comes out around 2022.
