Amber Heard, Johnny Depp 2019: ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Star Sues ‘Aquaman’ Actress for $50M for Defamation

Relationships don’t get more disastrous than the Amber Heard, Johnny Depp case with the former married couple now entering serious legal waters. It would appear that the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” actor is suing his ex-wife for defamation. The price tag is $50 million, which just shows how seriously he takes her allegations of abuse against him.

As the Chicago Tribune reports, the Amber Heard, Johnny Depp case has just reached a new level of stakes with the 55-year-old actor filing a lawsuit that could cost the young actress a lot of money. This is due to the editorial that Amber Heard wrote for the Washington Post where she accused her ex-husband of abuse.

“Two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture's wrath for women who speak out,” the piece read.

The “wrath” that is being referred to here is the public reaction following the accusations of abuse after the Amber Heard, Johnny Depp split. While there were many who sided with the actress when she came out with her story, a lot of people were also quick to cast aspersions at her. Suffice it to say, the whole thing turned into quite the dumpster fire.

Now, this Amber Heard, Johnny Depp legal case is dumping a ton of gasoline into the flames. As it stands, the lawsuit is basically pushing the position that the allegations against the actor were not true. The article itself is being used as a piece of evidence in the case even though no name was brought up.

“Mr. Depp never abused Ms. Heard. Her allegations against him were false when they were made in 2016,” the lawsuit reads.

As things stand, this Amber Heard, Johnny Depp case has every chance of devolving into yet another public fiasco. It could be solved in a settlement eventually, but not before the internet takes a bite out of it.
