FX’s “Versace: American Crime Story” will have Ricky Martin as the latest member of its cast. The multiple Grammy awardee is set to play the late Gianni Versace’s partner, Antonio D’Amico, Variety said.
Screenrant said D’Amico was Versace’s partner for fifteen years until his death in the hands of serial killer Andrew Cunanan. D’Amico is now a fashion designer in his own right. It is also been deduced that because D’Amico is still living, he might have provided exclusive details that might be taken into account as the script is being developed.
This will not be Martin’s first acting job. W Magazine said Martin has worked with Ryan Murphy in his other TV endeavor, “Glee.” Martin has also performed in Broadway as Marius in “Les Misérables”” and Ché in “Evita.” He has also performed in the English-language soap “General Hospital” and Spanish-language soap “Por Siempre Amigos.”
“Versace: American Crime Story” will be based off from Maureen Orth’s book “Vulgar Favors.” Murphy will be directing the first episode. Martin will be joined by Édgar Rarmirez as Versace, Penélope Cruz as Versace’s sister Donatella, and Darren Criss as Cunanan. The show is a follow-up from the critically-acclaimed “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” which was showed last year, and will premiere before “Katrina: American Crime Story,” which will be set against the devastating Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Production will start sometime in April, and will be filmed in Miami and Los Angeles. The series will be aired in 2018.
