Apple is still working on a new HomePod model with a curved LCD display, according to Apple leaker and prototype collector "Kosutami."
Future HomePod Is Supposed to Include a Curved LCD Display
The B720 device appears to have the same form as the current HomePod but with a curved, convex LCD screen at the top to display content. Kosutami posted photographs of component parts supposedly belonging to a prototype touchscreen HomePod in October.
At the time, several outlets claimed to have verified the veracity of these photographs using other sources. Apple is said to be working on making Apple Music and Apple Podcasts compatible with the new display, which will display a blurred animation based on the colors of the album art when a song or podcast is playing. The screen could also display critical notifications.
Apple Reinvents HomePod with Display and New HomeOS
In 2021, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman was the first to speculate that Apple is developing new HomePods with displays and cameras. He also claims that Apple is developing a multi-touch capability for the HomePod.
In the long run, Apple is said to be reconsidering its smart home approach and is working on a gadget that combines the Apple TV with the HomePod, as well as a HomePod with a screen attached to a robotic arm. The HomePod already runs a version of tvOS, but there are hints that Apple is developing a new "homeOS" platform.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated earlier this year that Apple planned to unveil a revamped HomePod with a 7-inch display in the first half of 2024. Kuo stated in a brief Medium article that the display on the next-generation HomePod could allow for tighter connectivity with Apple's other hardware products.
Tianma will reportedly benefit from Apple's "revamped smart home strategy," becoming the only supplier of the revised HomePod's display. Tianma may be entrusted to provide iPad panels in the future if its participation in the manufacturing of the new HomePod goes well.
