Amid surging demand for the upcoming iPhone 16, Apple’s key supplier, Foxconn, has launched a massive hiring drive, adding 50,000 new workers and offering a $1,050 signing bonus to keep production lines running smoothly.
Foxconn Boosts Workforce by 50,000
Following last year's successful introduction of four iPhone models in September, Apple's assembly partner Foxconn is sure to be swamped with millions of orders for the upcoming 16th generation iPhone.
It has been reported that the Chinese supply chain behemoth has increased its workforce by 50,000 people in order to meet demand. In order to keep the new personnel on board, the company allegedly paid a beginning bonus of $1,050 and raised the hourly rate to discourage last-minute resignations.
Zhengzhou Site Powers iPhone 16 Production
According to reports, the 50,000 employees will be stationed at Foxconn's Zhengzhou site, widely recognized as the world's largest factory and the location that cranks out the most iPhones every year.
This strategy, which Foxconn also used leading up to the release of the iPhone 15 last year, appears to be working thus far, as the extra workers were brought on board in August (as reported by Economic News Daily).
Advertisements for Apple's largest assembly partner began appearing in July, bringing in a maximum hourly compensation of 25 yuan, or $3.49.
Supposedly, in August, Foxconn raised the incentive from $836 to $1,050; however, it will only be given to employees who have served their full three-month term.
Chen Da, a Foxconn recruitment agent, suggested increasing bonuses to $1,116 in the event of a staffing shortfall in order to motivate employees to remain on the job for the full term.
Apple to Increase iPhone 16 Sales by 10%
Per WCCFTECH, earlier estimates indicated that Apple aimed to sell 90 million iPhone 16 units in 2024, a 10% increase above the number of units in the iPhone 15 series.
To maintain a steady supply of iPhone 16, Foxconn must work around the clock due to an increase in the yearly shipment objective for the newer models.
Foxconn and its employees will have to go full steam ahead during the official launch time, but Apple has the option to reduce the necessary shipments in the following months if it thinks demand has leveled out.
The Zhengzhou plant in China is still Apple's most reliable assembly line, producing millions of iPhone 16s annually, even if the business has expanded manufacturing to India.
