“Avatar 2” is one of the most highly-anticipated sequels in the movie industry mostly due to the success that the first film garnered. At the moment, little is known about what exactly will occur in the franchise’s second installment.
And this is not expected to change in the coming months given that “Avatar 2” has been slated for release in 2020. However, James Cameron has reportedly shown some clips to Disney CEO Bob Iger who, in turn, presented it to Disney shareholders, Comicbook reported.
The bad news is that the clip has never been made public. One of the major reasons for this is that the franchise isn’t owned by Disney. Not yet anyway. The House of Mouse is still finalizing its deal with Fox that would secure the rights of “Avatar 2” and three of its sequels.
That’s right. The movie will be extended to five films that would tell the conflict between humanity and the inhabitants of Pandora. “Avatar 2” has already been confirmed to film a large chunk of its location underwater. What’s more, the sequel will be introducing a new Na’Vi tribe who are described as remarkable divers.
“Avatar 2” being filmed underwater isn’t surprising given that James Cameron is a huge lover of the sea. He even went to the deepest part of the Mariana’s Trench in 2012 with the trip lasting seven hours.
Apart from the location, “Avatar 2” will also tell the story of Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) as they try to raise their new family. Regarding the villain of the film, Stephen Lang has been cast as not only the big bad of the second installment but the main antagonists for the rest of the franchise.
It’s still unclear how Lang’s character – Colonel Miles Quaritch – survived his death in the first film given that Neytiri buried two thick arrows on his chest during their confrontation. Perhaps the Tree of Souls has something to do with it but that’s still unconfirmed. Whatever the case, “Avatar 2” is looking to be one of the biggest films to come out in 2020 and may even surpass its predecessor with regards to its sales performance.
