On June 16, 2017, Bloomberg published an article entitled “CenturyLink Is Accused of Running a Wells Fargo-Like Scheme.”
According to the article, a former CenturyLink employee filed a lawsuit claiming she was fired for blowing the whistle on the Company’s high-pressure sales culture that left customers paying millions of dollars for accounts they did not request. The employee reportedly alleges she was fired days after notifying Chief Executive Officer Glen Post of the alleged scheme during a companywide question-and-answer session held on an internal message board.
This news drove the price of CenturyLink shares down approximately 4.6% on heavy volume to close at $25.72 on June 16, 2017.
“We’re focused on the allegations Bloomberg reported that, if true, inflicted significant damage on CenturyLink investors and may also indicate that the Company engaged in improper accounting in violation of generally accepted accounting principles,” said Hagens Berman partner Reed Kathrein.
Whistleblowers: Persons with non-public information regarding CenturyLink should consider their options to help in the investigation or take advantage of the SEC Whistleblower program. Under the new SEC whistleblower program, whistleblowers who provide original information may receive rewards totaling up to 30 percent of any successful recovery made by the SEC.
