A couple of well-known leakers and cryptic changes in Infinity Ward’s Twitter page may be hinting at the release of the first teasers for this year’s mainline “Call of Duty” installment arriving this week. But the full reveal of the game, rumored to be a “Modern Warfare” sequel, is not expected until late May.
On Sunday, Infinity Ward changed its Twitter banner and profile photos into fully dark images that immediately alerted fans of a potential announcement happening soon. IGN adjusted one of the image’s brightness and found that it is hiding a figure that looked like Ghost.
The changes in Infinity Ward’s social media page were also followed by reports from leakers @TheGhostOfHope and @RalphsValve hinting at the imminent release of teasers for the 2022 “Call of Duty” game. The latter chose not to leak promotional materials due to legal reasons, but later said “reliable” influencers and residents in Southern California have been invited for the playtesting of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.” Meanwhile, @TheGhostOfHope said Infinity Ward and Activision would start releasing teasers from April 30. But the game will not be fully revealed until May 30.

Infinity Ward confirmed in early February that it is working on “a new generation of ‘Call of Duty.’” While the developer did not mention a specific title, the announcement post ended with the popular “Stay frosty” tagline popularly used in the “Modern Warfare” series. The anticipated “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” this year is most likely a sequel to the 2019 reboot of “Modern Warfare.”
The announcement of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” in May, if the leaks are accurate, suggests that Activision will stay on schedule for its annual release of new “Call of Duty” titles. But there are reports that the publisher plans on changing the cycle as the planned 2023 installment had been delayed for a year. Activision later denied the report saying, “We have an exciting slate of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences for this year, next year and beyond. Reports of anything otherwise are incorrect. We look forward to sharing more details when the time is right.”
