NBA stars Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, and Dwyane Wade are once again making use of their platforms in stopping social injustice by launching the Social Change Fund.
This, amidst their busy schedules as Anthony, is busy training with his new team, the Portland Trail Blazers, as well as Paul for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both teams are part of the 22 teams that will be playing in the resumption of the NBA 2019-2020 season at the NBA bubble at the Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
Wade, for his part, had hung up his jersey for the Miami Heat in the 2018-2019 season playing his last game against the Brooklyn Nets last March 30, 2020, wherein he had a triple-double of 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The three had pooled their money to jumpstart the Social Change Fund, which according to Paul, is their contribution to addressing the social and economic justice issues that Black communities have to face as well as breaking down the discriminating barriers that hamper success for the Blacks.
Carmelo Anthony further explained that the fund will be used to invest and lend support to organizations championing criminal justice reform, enacting policy solutions, and advocating for all Black lives not only now but for generations to come as well.
Wade agreed with Anthony and reiterated that the fund is their commitment to support organizations that represent and benefit the Black community. He added that they are setting up the necessary funds to be able to create a path for inclusivity and success to spark a long-term change for Black lives.
The three NBA stars hope that other athletes and celebrities will donate to the fund.
This is not the first time that the three players have been vocal about issues on social injustice and systemic racism in the hopes of empowering the Black community. They have done it individually all throughout their careers, and now they are pooling their resources for a bigger contribution, which is the Social Change Fund.
Although they are playing for different teams in the NBA, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Paul have maintained a close relationship along with LeBron James.
