It can be said that “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” is one of the anime series that gained immense popularity over the last couple of years. Now, the franchise is expanding with its first-ever video game adaptation launching later this year.
Will the video game launch before ‘Demon Slayer’ season 2?
The game, officially titled “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles,” received a new trailer this week that also contains a specific release date. The 3D fighting game developed by CyberConnect2 will be available starting Oct. 15 worldwide on Windows PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It is published by Aniplex in Japan and by Sega in other parts of the world.
“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” season 2 has been confirmed for some time now, but fans have yet to hear when it will premiere. However, earlier this year, the show’s official Twitter page announced that new episodes will be released sometime in 2021. It then begs the question if the game would be released before or around the same time as the anime’s second installment.
‘Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles’ gameplay: What to expect
The upcoming fighting game features a single-player story mode and a versus mode. The latter is an online and local multiplayer that will let fans form a team of two fighters. The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles” roster will feature up to 18 familiar characters from the original series and the spin-off “Chuukou Ikkan!! Kimetsu Gakuen Monogatari.”
Fans can watch the new trailer, now available online, to revisit the key events that changed Tanjiro and Nezuko’s lives. The story arcs covered in the anime’s first season and the “Mugen Train” animated film are expected to be covered in the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles” single-player story mode.
It is then not surprising that the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles” story trailer features some highlights, including Tanjiro’s training and the first test he needed to pass to join the Demon Slayer Corps. It is also worth noting that the word Hinokami in the title is a nod to Tanjiro’s signature move – the Breathing Style called Hinokami Kagura.
