Despite being largely unsuccessful in his attempts to overturn the elections in his favor, Donald Trump continues to tout his unfounded allegations of fraud. The outgoing president took the opportunity to air out his grievances and push his claims of fraud in the recent rally in Georgia.
Over the weekend, Trump hosted a post-election rally in Georgia, where he took the opportunity to air his grievances towards the election results while also touting his claims of fraud. The rally was meant to draw up support for the two Republican incumbents trying to get reelected in their Senate seats. The Georgia runoffs also happen to decide which political party has control of the Senate as both the House and the White House have turned Democratic given Joe Biden’s victory.
During the rally, Trump threatened his supporters that should the Republican incumbents lose their seats in the runoffs, “You’ll never be able to look yourself in the eye.” Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue are vying for reelection against their Democratic challengers Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. Trump’s continued touting of claims follows a rejected attempt by the state’s Republican governor to pass special legislation to give him the state’s electoral votes, recalling the votes given to Biden. The state has already certified the votes for Biden.
This has since overshadowed the attempts to draw up Republican support for Loeffler and Perdue. Republicans in Georgia have since raised concerns regarding the amount of doubt Trump is casting on the integrity of the elections in the state.
At the same time, Trump announced that his lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who is heading the legal team that is persistent in contesting the election results, tested positive for COVID-19. However, Trump did not specify whether or not Giuliani exhibited symptoms as well as when the former New York mayor tested positive. It has been reported that Giuliani is currently undergoing treatment at the Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington.
“Rudy Giuliani, by far the greatest mayor in the history of NYC, and who has been working tirelessly exposing the most corrupt election (by far!) in the history of the USA, has tested positive for the China Virus,” tweeted Trump, referring to the coronavirus by a racist term. “Get better soon, Rudy, we will carry on!!”
