Donald Trump has long evaded the question of whether or not he would accept the results of the election or a peaceful transfer of power should his opponent Joe Biden beat him in Tuesday’s elections. Despite Trump’s refusal to commit, Trump officials in the White House are already in the process of preparing for a transition.
Trump has publicly refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power should Biden get elected, however, the process of preparing for a presidential transition is already underway with the assistance of some top officials. The legally mandated transition every four years ensures that should there be a transfer of power required, the president-elect will make use of the remaining three months after the elections to put together a government to already start work come inauguration day.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic has made the transition from Trump to Biden, should the Democratic candidate win the elections, one of the most consequential ones. Despite Trump’s evasion to answer the question of a peaceful transfer of power, his chief of staff Mark Meadows and deputy chief of staff for policy coordination Chris Liddel have already started working with Biden’s transition team.
Biden’s transition team, however, despite cooperation coming from the Trump administration, are already taking precautions for possible setbacks by the current administration. Thus, the legal implications now rest with former White House counsel Bob Bauer Biden campaign general counsel Dana Remus along with an expansive legal team. The legal team will be focusing on possible voting and election issues.
Meanwhile, as the elections draw closer for Trump, infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke up once again against Trump and his allies over the weekend. In an interview with the Washington Post, Dr. Fauci called out the administration for allowing its strategy to combat COVID-19 to be shaped by a neuroradiologist, Dr. Scott Atlas, who is not qualified in the field of infectious diseases. Dr. Atlas also coincidentally allowed for an interview by a Kremlin-controlled propaganda network as well.
However, Dr. Fauci also gave Meadows credit for his admission that the White House has effectively given up on trying to fight the pandemic.
