Ford Motor is facing new hurdles that are affecting its vehicle production due to the Ukraine war. The conflict that was started by Russia has caused chip shortage, and other parts supply issues for the company.
As a result, Ford Motor had to shut down some of its plants since productions could not proceed with missing vehicle parts. The company's European production is being reduced by the effects of the war and the still unresolved chip shortage.
The Dearborn, Michigan headquartered automaker announced that it would temporarily halt operations in its two plants in Germany as it does not have enough semiconductor parts to make the cars. The company revealed it has also stopped taking new orders for two of its car models being produced in Spain.
As per Fox Business, Ford Motor's business is also being interrupted by the temporary closure of a Volkswagen plant in Poland. This facility is said to supply the firm with the Tourneo Connect minivan.
Then again, the detailed information about Volkswagen's manufacturing predicaments was not disclosed, but the VW Group, including Porsche, depends on some parts manufactured within and near Ukraine. Since there is a war in the said region, the supply chain has been interrupted with the suspension of productions there.
Ford said that it would continue to monitor the situation every day in connection with its partners at Volkswagen. The company will also give updates about this at a later date.
In any case, the German production facilities that will be idled are those located in Saarlouis and Cologne. These will be shut for a time, and the global chip shortage is the main reason. As for the vehicles affected in the production in Valencia, Spain, Ford Motor will not take new orders for its S-Max and Galaxy models. The American carmaker said that it has orders for both model units until beyond September. Ford Motor said that it would be fulfilling these existing, according to Reuters.
Meanwhile, Russia's attacks to invade Ukraine have also affected the production of Ford's Tourneo Connect. Other major automakers are also facing various issues due to the war, and it seems that the problems will persist for a time.
