LL Cool J wants NCIS: Los Angeles season 12 to address racism and police brutality after these issues were once again highlighted with the death of African American George Floyd while being arrested in Minneapolis last March.
LL Cool J, who plays the role of Sam Hanna, said their series should include good cops policing the bad cops in the hopes that it might reflect on the society, as reported by Cartermatt.
Police shows have come under heavy scrutiny following what happened to Floyd with some being labeled as a pro-cop show and should be canceled.
Floyd had died when a police officer had forcibly knelt on the back of his neck while he was lying face down on the ground. Floyd had been shouting that he couldn't breathe but the police officer and his companions seemingly did not hear him. Floyd lost consciousness and was brought to the hospital where he later died for the injury that he suffered in that incident.
With so much time on their hands due to the unexpected break caused by the coronavirus (CoVid-19) pandemic, the show's bosses would have already thought of and discussed how they would incorporate the major events that have been happening since March into the police drama series.
According to TV Guide, there is no specific date yet as to when NCIS: Los Angeles season 12 will start airing, hopefully, it can make it to the 2020 fall schedule.
Although California had just allowed production on films and television shows to resume last June 12, that is easier said than done as production teams would have to adhere to CoVid-19 protocols such as social distancing and wearing of masks all the time. This means that filming will have a limited number of people and a shorter time to shoot.
