‘Legends of Tomorrow’ season 2 has added Vixen as a series regular but actress Megalyn Echikunwoke will not be returning to portray her. Instead, a younger cast member will be replacing her. Meanwhile, a bigger villain is expected to be introduced in the second season.
According to Blastr, season 2 will feature Vixen as a series regular but Echikunwoke will not be reprising her role as the crime fighting vigilante. She will be replaced by a younger cast member since an earlier version of the character will be introduced into the team. However, the actress will continue to voice the heroine in The CW’s animated series.
Echikunwoke portrayed Mari McCabe a.k.a. Vixen, an African-American business woman and model endowed superhuman abilities by the Anansi Totem. She used this to necklace to harness powers such as superhuman speed, strength, and agility as well as abilities of camouflaging, wall climbing and flight. She also possesses intensive occult knowledge and is proficient in hand-to-hand combat.
A new version of Vixen will be introduced into the series following the events from the preceding season’s finale, according to Comingsoon.net. In the ending moments of season 1, the team is seen preparing to enter a time-traveling ship when another Waverider crashes to the ground. A survivor emerges from the wreckage to warn them that if they board the ship, they will die. He is revealed to be Justice Society of America member Rex Tyler a.k.a. Hourman and was sent back in time by Heat Wave himself.
The actress replacing Echikunwoke has yet to be confirmed. It was reported that the new Vixen may or may not have a historical connection with Echikunwoke’s character. Echikunwoke may possibly reprise her role in other shows in the Arrowverse such as in ‘Arrow’ or ‘The Flash’.
According to We Got This Covered, actress Caity Lotz revealed, “There really is gonna be a big shakeup of everything for Season 2. It’s gonna be a little bit of a different show, which I’m excited to see where they’re gonna go with it.” Lotz plays Sara Lance a.k.a. White Canary in the series.
Meanwhile, executive producer Marc Guggenheim teased that season 2 will feature a bigger villain. Brandon Routh expressed his own thoughts on the new antagonists saying, “It might be more like on the show Flash and Arrow where we have a couple smaller villains that come in. There will be a season-long nemesis, but he’ll come and go throughout the season, so we don’t always have to be focused solely on that.” Routh plays Ray Palmer a.k.a. Atom in the series.
‘Legends of Tomorrow’ is an action-adventure television series airing on The CW as part of the expanded DC television universe called the Arrowverse. It was developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer and Marc Guggenheim. Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on the network on October 2016.
