‘Legends of Tomorrow’ season 2’s episode 9, titled "Raiders of the Lost Art," is set to feature young George Lucas as the team heads to 1960s Los Angeles. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim teased that the winter premiere will be a “level of crazy” for the series.
The incoming episode’s title is a reference to the 1981 Indiana Jones film, “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” directed by Steven Spielberg from a story by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman. According to Coming Soon, a young Lucas will be appearing on the winter premiere and will be portrayed by Matt Angel. The 26-year old actor is known for his work on ‘R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour,’ ‘Sweet/Vicious,’ and ‘Grimm.’
Episode 9 will delve into Hollywood history and will feature Lucas working in 1964 Los Angeles. A time aberration has a direct and disastrous effect on Ray (Brandon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano) in particular.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed, “Because of circumstances, the time aberration in episode 209 is George Lucas quits film school… As a result, he never makes Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark. As a result, Ray, who became an engineer because of Star Wars, and Nate, who became a historian because of Raiders, slowly start to lose their brilliance, because those things that inspired them to become who they are didn’t exist.”
Guggenheim continued, “We were watching a cut of it, and I said to Greg [Berlanti] that 209 is either going to be the episode where we’ll say that the show found a new gear in terms of how zany it can be, or it’s the episode that’s going to get us all fired.”
He added, “It really is. You’re laughing out loud, I think with it, but it’s like, ‘Are we really doing this?’ It’s the ’70s bar fight on steroids. The whole episode is that level of crazy.”
‘Legends of Tomorrow’ season 2’s episode 9, titled "Raiders of the Lost Art," is scheduled to air on The CW on January 24, 2017. It was directed by Dermott Downs and written by Keto Shimizu and Chris Fedak. It will be followed by episode 10, titled "The Legion of Doom."
