‘Madam Secretary’ season 3’s episode 12, titled “The Detour,” will feature Elizabeth as she attempts to outwit China with a development aid offer for Africa. Meanwhile, Henry is set to investigate a coffee shop bombing with the FBI.
The synopsis for “The Detour” posted on TV Guide reads, “A bumpy aid trip to Africa is experienced by Elizabeth (Tea Leoni) and her staff when they are surprised to discover that China has arrived there first with their own development plan to offer the continent.
Meanwhile, Henry (Tim Daly) is asked by the FBI to help look into a Christian cult member who may be involved in the bombing of an Illinois coffee shop.”
It seems that Elizabeth will be dealing with more challenges when the China moves to outmaneuver the United States with development aid for Africa after arriving at the continent first.
In the promo, Elizabeth is in the middle of negotiating with the Africans on aid for electricity. The African leader tells her, “We need electricity today. China offered us better terms.” The news leaves the United States’ secretary of State stricken when she realizes that they haven’t moved fast enough.
It seems that Elizabeth will have to use her diplomatic prowess to bargain with the Chinese as they go head-to-head on competitive deals. It would be interesting to follow her as she meets with China’s representative, who tells her that it is nothing personal.
Meanwhile, according to Cartermatt, turbulence on their flight to Africa will leave Daisy (Patina Miller) panic-stricken enough to go on a welcome tour of the nation with Susan (Tonya Pinkins).
Henry, on the other hand, will have to work with the FBI to investigate a cult member connected to an Illinois coffee shop bombing.
‘Madam Secretary’ season 3’s episode 12, titled “The Detour,” is scheduled to air on January 15, 2017. It was directed by Martha Mitchell and written by Matt Ward. It will be followed by episode 13, titled "The Beautiful Game," scheduled for January 29.
