Manny Pacquiao has yet to announce who he’s going to fight next although prospects have already been named by boxing publications. Among them is Errol Spence Jr., the undefeated 28-year-old American who recently called out the lawmaker to step into the ring.
What’s more, the celebrated young fighter said that he’s willing to fight Manny Pacquaio anywhere, even at the Filipino’s home turf. Errol Spence Jr. is an interesting matchup for the 40-year-old as both men are southpaw strikers, Business Times reported.
But before this narrative moves to a significant headway, Errol Spence Jr. first need to defend his belt against Mikey Garcia, also an undefeated boxer. Their fight is scheduled to take place on March 16 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas. Manny Pacquiao is reported to make an appearance during the title defense to shop for opponents as confirmed by his U.S. representative Sean Gibbons.
While Errol Spence Jr. did call out the fighting senator of the Philippines, he did say that he’s focusing on Garcia at the moment. He added that after he wins his upcoming match, the media is free to ask any questions they have regarding a possible fight between him and Manny Pacquiao.
As for the other opponents that are being considered by Pacquaio’s camp, Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, and Keith Thurman are those that have been mentioned. Meanwhile, the sequel fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is unlikely to happen anytime soon as the latter is more interested in fighting exhibition matches. As for Errol Spence Jr., he seems confident enough to win against the Filipino icon if his statements are anything to go by.
His record isn’t to sneeze at either. Standing at 24-0, Errol Spence Jr. has the capacity to knock Manny Pacquiao out as 21 out of those 24 wins came by stoppage. Of course, the Filipino slugger’s power shouldn’t be counted out either. Even at 40 years old, the lawmaker still got what it takes to put an opponent down as has been seen during his one-sided match against Adrien Broner.
