Mark Harmon is once again rumored to be leaving “NCIS” so it means that he will not be on the show’s next installment anymore. This news emerged even if “NCIS” season 17 is not even in production yet so this is a bit confusing.
It was even said that aside from Mark Harmon, other stars are also set to leave and they are allegedly getting ready now. Now, this is not the first time that the 67-year-old veteran actor has been reported to be saying goodbye to the long-running police procedural drama and just like the old stories, this new rumor is not true as well.
So, why is Mark Harmon being reported to be leaving “NCIS?” The reason why this report is back again is due to an upcoming drama that will be based on John Sandford’s “Prey” detective novel series. It was said that the actor is going to be its executive producer so he will have to let go some of his projects to accommodate the new one.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the new drama will tell the story of a homicide detective agent Lucas Davenport and his best friend. The two work side by side in order to catch criminals lurking around Minnesota.
Then again, the truth is Mark Harmon is not leaving “NCIS” to be an executive producer of another show. If he will indeed accept the position, he can still work for NCIS since his work does not require him to be on the new drama’s set every day. This means that he can still be involved in the still untitled series and still continue to be Leroy Jethro Gibbs as well.
Besides, Mark Harmon is actually balancing several works right now but he still managed to be on “NCIS” season 16. It should be noted that he is also “NCIS: New Orleans” executive producer but there is no problem with his filming schedule.
Finally, Mark Harmon will not leave the show because he already signed a new deal last April. His new contract indicated that he will be agent Gibbs until “NCIS” season 17.
