Every once in a while, there is one video game that some may consider controversial for various reasons. This time, LKA’s upcoming “Martha Is Dead” seems to fit that bill as the developer confirmed it would “modify” the game’s version for PlayStation.
The developers recently announced that “Martha Is Dead” will have a somewhat different version for PS4 and PS5 than the original content and gameplay that are still slated to launch on PC and Xbox. Sony has yet to address the matter, but considering that the change will only be applied to the PlayStation system, video game fans have heavily speculated that the demand for some modification came from the console maker.
In its official statement, LKA reiterated that “Martha Is Dead” was created specifically for adult audiences. The studio also lamented that it had to change the game “after over four years of passion and hard work” and close to its official release date, too.
“Both Wired Productions and LKA have always been open and honest about Martha Is Dead content, with the sensitive depictions in play consistently communicated to the media since the game was announced in 2019,” the developer wrote. “This content is also flagged clearly and repeatedly within the game itself before play begins.”

Calling “Martha Is Dead” a horror game might not accurately describe it. LKA has been upfront in describing the upcoming game as having gory, psychologically disturbing themes. And these appear to be the factors that led to the request of modifying the game for the PS4 and PS5 audience.
On Steam, “Martha Is Dead” is described as an adult narrative drama with artistic interpretations. “It explores the complexities of the human mind, psychological trauma, and self-harm,” the game page reads. “The game is not recommended for players who may find depictions of mature scenes containing blood, dismemberment, disfigurement of human bodies and self-harm disturbing.”
The digital version of “Martha Is Dead” is still slated to launch on Feb. 24 on PS4 and PS5, as well as on PC and Xbox. But the physical copy for PlayStation will be delayed to an unknown date.
