Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she had a “very good” phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday, highlighting efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Sheinbaum noted that the conversation focused on collaboration across “diverse topics” and reaffirmed the two countries' willingness to work closely. While details of the discussion were not disclosed, both sides emphasized a positive tone.
The call came just before the scheduled G7 summit in Canada, where Sheinbaum and Trump were originally set to meet in person. However, Trump left the summit early, prompting the leaders to speak by phone instead. A White House official confirmed the exchange, stating it was a “good call” and reaffirming ongoing dialogue between the neighboring nations.
Sheinbaum, Mexico’s first female president, took office amid complex challenges in U.S.-Mexico relations, including migration, trade, and regional security. Her administration has emphasized diplomacy and stability as core principles, especially when engaging with the United States.
President Trump, who has prioritized border enforcement and trade reform, has maintained a direct communication style with Mexico’s leadership. The cordial nature of this call may signal a continued effort by both governments to find common ground on key policy issues.
As the G7 summit unfolds, attention remains on how North American leaders align on global and regional concerns. The Sheinbaum-Trump exchange serves as a diplomatic overture with potential implications for cross-border cooperation and economic policy.
