Even after leaving the White House in 2017, former first lady Michelle Obama and her husband Barack Obama remain to be incredibly influential political figures. While she has received calls from many hoping that she would run for office someday, Michelle revealed that she would never do so for one big reason.
As a guest on the Conan O’Brien podcast, the former first lady touched on whether or not she would consider running for office, following her husband Barack, who was president for two terms from 2008 to 2016. Michelle is often floated around as the best person to defeat Donald Trump long before former vice president Joe Biden became the official Democratic nominee. Mrs. Obama has also been suggested to become the best running mate for Biden before Senator Kamala Harris would become the vice-presidential candidate. Even Biden himself has said he would choose Michelle without question if she considered running.
However, Michelle revealed one thing that she and Barack missed, which is also one reason why she would never think of running for office. “What Barack and I talk about that we do miss…is the loss of anonymity,” said the former first lady. “And that’s something that most people don’t understand, how valuable anonymity is. Being able to blend into your environment, and not be the center of it, but just to observe it...and because I love people so much, I love casual conversations with people.”
Michelle also shared that another reason why she would not run for office is that she does not have enough political experience to do so. This is despite many claiming that she is ready to try for public office.
The Obamas are also known to have a good relationship with the Royals and a report reveals the stark contrast of their interactions with Royals like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex compared to the Royals’ interactions with the Trumps. One instance showing the stark contrast was when Prince Harry met with first lady Melania Trump in 2017 during the Invictus Games. One photo of the two of them standing side by side together circulated on the internet, but many users noticed that the Duke of Sussex had a strange gesture that was one of his hands was half-tucked into his jacket.
Their interactions were subject to speculation, saying that it was an awkward meeting between the two.
