Hayden Haynes, Chief of Staff to U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, was arrested for DUI late Tuesday night after crashing into a parked vehicle at the Capitol. The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m., shortly after President Donald Trump’s address to Congress.
According to the U.S. Capitol Police, Haynes backed into a Capitol vehicle and was taken into custody. NBC News reported that he was cited and later released with a court summons. Speaker Johnson, who presided over the House session following Trump’s speech, acknowledged the incident and expressed "full faith and confidence" in Haynes.
DUI cases in Washington, D.C., are handled by Attorney General Brian Schwalb’s office. Haynes has not yet issued a public statement regarding the arrest.
