Nike's CEO, John Donahoe, disclosed thrilling news during a recent business call, announcing the anticipated relaunch of Kobe Bryant's Nike shoe line in concert with Kobe Day on August 24. The revival, involving a partnership with Vanessa Bryant, will honor the NBA legend's legacy and also commemorate his daughter, Gigi.
While no specific details were shared regarding new models or re-releases, the partnership between Nike and Vanessa Bryant, Kobe's widow, promises an exciting future for fans of the NBA superstar's signature shoes. The relaunch will also include products dedicated to their daughter, Gigi, who tragically passed away with her father in a helicopter crash in January 2020.
The commemoration of Kobe Bryant's legacy plays a significant role in the brand's future plans. Donahoe expressed excitement for the upcoming relaunch, coinciding with Kobe Day on 8/24, which pays homage to Bryant's jersey numbers, 8 and 24.
Vanessa Bryant expressed pride in her late husband's shoes, remarking on their popularity among NBA players and global fans. In the new partnership, Nike will donate 100% of the net proceeds from Gianna's shoes annually to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, further honoring the Bryant family's legacy.
Vanessa expressed pride in her late husband's shoes being the most worn by players on NBA courts and being highly desired by fans worldwide. As part of the new partnership, fans can look forward to accessing Kobe and Gigi Nike products for years to come. Additionally, Nike will donate 100% of the net proceeds from Gianna's shoes annually to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation.
It's worth noting that the relationship between Vanessa and Nike had been strained after Kobe's passing, particularly when Nike seemingly released the Nike Kobe 6 Protro "Mambacita" sneakers without her permission. However, Vanessa's gesture of gifting the LSU women's basketball team with a pair of Nike Kobe 6 "Grinch" sneakers showcased her continued support.
Recently, Nike released the Kobe 4 Protro 'Mambacita' shoes to honor Gigi's 17th birthday, and they received Vanessa's endorsement.
This announcement sets the stage for an exciting future as Kobe Bryant's Nike shoe line gets ready to make a comeback, paying homage to his remarkable legacy.
