ATLANTA and LONG BEACH, N.Y., Feb. 13, 2017 -- Planet Payment, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLPM), a leading provider of international and multi-currency transaction services, and Worldpay US, a global leader in payments processing technology and solutions, will launch Planet Payment’s Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at ATMs solution across 70,000 Worldpay ATMs in the United States.
DCC at ATMs enables international travelers to the U.S. to withdraw local currency from an ATM while seeing the amount debited from their account in their own currency. International cardholders using Worldpay US ATMs will now have the ability to instantly view, select and better understand the conversion to their home currency of the US dollar amount dispensed at participating ATMs.
“We are pleased to bring DCC convenience to our ATM customers,” said Mike Cowart, VP & GM, ATM & MSP ISO at Worldpay US. “DCC at ATMs can help combat declining interchange and offers a valuable service to our international customers who want to better understand exactly how much they are withdrawing in their own currency when traveling in the U.S.”
For ATM owners and operators, DCC at ATMs can mean big business. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, international travelers to the U.S. are expected to grow 2.4 percent in 2017 to a new volume record of 78.6 million visitors. By 2021, annual visitor volume is expected to grow to 94.1 million.
“Planet Payment is thrilled to partner with Worldpay US to launch DCC across their network of ATMs,” said Melissa Jones, SVP, North America Sales & Acquirer Relations for Planet Payment. “We believe DCC at ATMs is a great customer-facing solution to providing personalized payment options to travelers withdrawing money in the U.S., and look forward to working with Worldpay to expand the reach of this solution.”
Planet Payment and Worldpay anticipate enabling Worldpay ATMs with DCC by first quarter 2017.
