The “Outlander” TV series, which is based on Diana Gabaldon’s same title novel saga, has been presenting a tale worth following and that explains why it is consistently well-received by viewers. It is also important to attribute the show’s success to the performance of its leading cast members Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan.
However, for some reason, Balfe and Heughan have yet to be nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards for their acting. And, over the past couple of years, various reports have regarded it as one of the major snubs at the prestigious award-giving body.
In “Outlander” season 4, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are getting much more screen time together. As the story progresses, the actors have also successfully given justice to the depth of acting that their characters require. And, again, hopes are up that they will be named one of the nominees for the best actor and best actress recognition in the Primetime Emmy Awards.
Known TV critic Ed Martin agrees that Heughan and Balfe are some of the TV actors that deserve to be considered for the awards. “Given the intensity, passion and intimacy of their performances, it's inconceivable that Caitriona and Sam have never been honoured with Emmy nominations,” Martin explained (via Now to Love). “Like ‘Game Of Thrones,’ ‘Outlander’ has shown us that well-done adaptations of popular novel series can make for first-rate television," he added.
Over the years, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have made it on the list of the top prospects for Emmy nominations. And, repeatedly, they also joined the names of the biggest upsets of not being included in the possible winners for their performance on “Outlander.”
The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards is slated on Sept. 22, so there is still no list of official nominations yet. It is, usually, announced around the month of July and fans are likely hoping that Balfe and Heughan are going to make it this time.
Meanwhile, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan returned on the small screen last Sunday with the first episode of “Outlander” season 4 in 2019. Their characters sure hoped for a much better reunion with their daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton). They, now, try their best to cope as a family with the tragedy Brianna recently faced in Wilmington after she was raped by Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers).
