There have been a lot of reports about “Shrek 5” but not many of them are confirmed. In fact, there is news that emerged recently, stating that the movie’s release date has been posted but that was a false report since filming has not even started yet.
Via Twitter, someone posted an update about “Shrek 5” and it stated that because of the coronavirus pandemic, the release date has been moved from 2020 to 2021. Apparently, this is fake news and the announcement did not even come from Dreamworks. In any case, for fans who have been worrying about the cancelation of this fifth “Shrek” film, they should calm down because it is happening and here are the signs that prove it.
No cancellation notice
It has been a long time since “Shrek 5” has been confirmed but its production has yet to begin. With this, it is natural for some people to assume that it was already canceled but the truth is - it’s not. Dreamworks and NBCUniversal have been busy producing other films like “Puss in Boots 2: Nine Lives and Forty Thieves” but this does not mean that they have already given up the fifth “Shrek” film.
In fact, if the studio really canceled the movie, then they should have issued a notice. They know that fans are waiting and the least that they could do to compensate them for waiting this long and making them anticipate the movie is to release a statement in case they decided not to proceed with the project.
Filming update and the script
What’s more “Shrek 5” already has its own IMDb page and a release date was even stated there as well. This is the page commonly used for movie announcements and it provides movie details for the fans.
The filming schedule for the film was also leaked. Based on the info, “Shrek 5” will begin production this year so it can make it to the premiere date of Sept. 23, 2022, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this schedule may have changed. Finally, the script of the movie is complete and the official schedule for filming is the only thing that the production team is waiting for their work to commence.
