Almost every important detail about the Sony WF-1000XM4 has appeared in the wild, especially with the latest leak. The upcoming true wireless earbuds will reportedly launch with an Ingress Protection rating.
Sony WF-1000XM4 is IP-certified, report claims
The latest report on Sony WF-1000XM4’s specifications and features come from the reliable tech news source WinFuture. Some of the new and most interesting details revealed this time include the earbuds’ reported IP rating. The device is expected to launch as IPX4-certified, which means it will be resistant to water splashes from any direction.
That means the Sony WF-1000XM4 should be good to use even under the rain, during workouts, or playing sports without sustaining any damage or malfunctioning. However, that IP rating also means the device is not protected enough to endure being submerged in water.
Sony WF-1000XM4 specs, price, possible release date
The same report also provided more information about the Sony WF-1000XM4’s hardware specs. It is reportedly powered by the Sony V1 chip, which is expected to deliver an improved active noise cancellation feature. For the battery specs, WinFuture reports the earbuds will be advertised with an 8-hour continuous playback with active noise cancellation.
The charging case, which will support Qi wireless and USB-C cable charging, can also deliver two full charges, bringing the total listening time to up to 24 hours. However, without the active noise cancellation, the Sony WF-1000XM4 is said to last for up to 12 hours on a single charge.
Tech fans have already seen plenty of leaked Sony WF-1000XM4 renders, and the earbuds are expected to launch with two colorways. The device could be offered in a combination of black & copper and white & gold.
Sony WF-1000XM4 will reportedly support LDAC Bluetooth and Hi-Res files. The latter should be an enticing feature, especially with Apple Music offering free Hi-Res audio settings starting June. Spotify also confirmed it will launch a HiFi tier sometime this year.
WinFuture said the Sony WF-1000XM4 could be priced at €279.90 (~$341) with the wireless charging case. The earbuds’ release date is still uncertain, but clues may have been found previously through an FCC filing that suggests a launch is possible in June.
