Tesla Cybertruck is likely included high up in the wish list of automobile aficionados and electric vehicle enthusiasts as its production has been slated to start in 2021. However, considering that Tesla’s operations were not spared from the COVID-19 pandemic that continues to this day, it is worth asking if there is a chance the release timeline for the futuristic pick-up truck would be changed.

Tesla Cybertruck release date: When does production begin

Tesla is approaching the Cybertruck production in a similar way it did for its previously launched vehicles. The higher-priced dual and tri motor all-wheel drive, which cost $49,900 and $69,900, respectively, are slated to enter production first in late 2021. A single motor rear-wheel drive is set to be the cheapest option for $39,900 but it is not scheduled for production until late 2022.

Considering Tesla’s previous timelines, that “late 2021” production target could also mean that the first batch of cyberpunk-themed pick-up truck could be delivered before the end of the year. As of this writing, these release windows are still the information reflected upon visiting the official order page for Tesla Cybertruck. That means the company’s plans have yet to change, and there is still a good chance for the electric vehicle to hit the road in 2021.

Will a pandemic-ridden year still affect the Cybertruck timeline in 2021?

Fans should note that the Tesla Cybertruck is planned to be produced in Gigafactory Texas, which is expected to begin full operations in late 2021 as well. The manufacturing facility’s construction started last July, and there has not been any suggestion that the factory’s completion timeline has changed.

It also appears that Tesla has managed to overcome most of the production and delivery challenges caused by the pandemic. Although it was not able to reach its delivery target in 2020, the discrepancy between its goal and what it achieved was relatively small. The company announced it delivered 499,550 vehicles for the year out of its 500,000 units target. That adds to the reasons the Cybertruck is still possible to launch this year. However, anyone familiar with Tesla’s history when it comes to meeting release date deadlines would know that it is best not to rule out a delay.
